Happy New Year’s!!

Do you make New Year’s resolutions?

Lots of people like to make New Year’s resolutions. Do you?

I’ve never really been a fan of doing that. We make these high and lofty promises to ourselves that we know will probably fall by the wayside by March, if we’re lucky.

If you make resolutions and are able to stick to them, then go forth, resolute, and good luck. I wish you all the best! They just don’t work for me.

BUT…what I do instead is make small goals that are easily achievable and I spend time praying, asking God to give me a Scripture to meditate on for the year ahead. I write the Scripture on my chalkboard in my kitchen so I can see it all year long. I constantly come back to that verse over and over, thinking about what it means in general and what it might mean for me personally. I don’t always know that part until the end of the year. But that’s a good thing. It means I’ve learned something that year.

One thing I’ve been thinking about recently is winter. It’s not my favorite season. I don’t like being cold and I thrive in sunshine, which we don’t see as much of during winter. I want to be a bear. Eat lots of yummy food and hibernate.

But I realized that that’s part of the point of winter. To rest. To slow down. Appreciate the moment you’re in.

Now I know…January is a time to start fresh, we had a good break and now we have to jump back into the fray of life. But I hope you are able to start your new year, with this restful mindset and remember, amongst all the busyness of life, to take a little time for yourself and appreciate the moment you’re in.

Here’s a fun and easy activity to use with your students in January that will help you and them stay in that restful mindset while still jumping back into learning! The Winter Wonder Bundle is a matching game to review the notes on the staff. You can use treble clef notes, bass clef notes, or both!

So check it out and let me know what resolutions or goals you’re setting for yourself or your students this year! And remember to have fun and find times to rest and slow down!
