A new fun and engaging music board game for elementary music class!
Now that we are past Valentine’s Day, we’re halfway through February. March is closer than ever. With March comes Daylight Savings, St. Patrick’s Day, and spring on the way! Wahoo!
So while we’re in between holidays and seasons, what can you do to keep your students learning and staying engaged in music class? Games and centers!!
Here is the perfect interactive game to use for reinforcing simple rhythms and note values with your upper elementary classes: Build-A-Robot Rhythm Race!

How to play
Divide your class into teams or small groups, or use this as a centers activity. Each team or player chooses a robot to build (Alpha, Omega, or Gamma) and receives a blank black & white robot page. Each team or player then places a game piece on the game board. If a team or player draws a rhythm card, they must correctly perform the rhythm to be able to advance on the game board. If the team or player draws a note value card, they must correctly identify the note or rest to earn a robot part to start building their robot.
There are also “trick” cards that randomly move players forward or backward on the board. And if a team or player lands on a robot space on the game board, they automatically get to choose a free robot part to add to their robot!
The first team or player to completer their robot wins the game!

Why teachers love this game
- Engages active learners! Students stay involved by clapping, listening, and constructing their robot!
- Eases classroom management! Structured hands-on play helps reduce off-task behavior!
- Encourages cooperative learning! Works well in small groups, fostering teamwork, cooperation, and collaboration!
- Differentiates learning! Easily adjust for various grade levels and rhythm reading abilities.
Classroom Application
Perfect for centers, whole group instruction, and feels like play! It also makes a great tie-in for March STEM activities or just a fun rhythm game all year round!
