Yep, it’s that time of year!
If you are a teacher, know that you are appreciated. It can sometimes feel like a thankless job for sure. But we have to keep the bigger picture in mind. The “why” we do what we do. To mold and influence young minds to be the best version of themselves they can be. Whether we are teaching music or math or writing, we are providing students with the opportunity to open their minds to their own possibilities.
If you are not a teacher, please remember to thank a teacher in your life or in your child’s life and know that it is not an easy job. It is often an exhausting job. But we do it because we love it. And we love your kids.

Cinco de Mayo
Last week in music class we celebrated Cinco de Mayo by playing a rhythm game using Spanish words and dancing to La Raspa, a fast paced folk dance that you can make super simple and use with all the grades.
Students stand in 2 lines facing each other. When the music starts, the top 2 pairs of students dance between the lines to get to the other end. While they do that, the students in the lines make 3 stomps and 2 quick claps and repeat 4 times. Then both lines quickly join hands to make one big circle! They go around the circle to the right for 8 counts, then to the left for 8 counts, and repeat in both directions. Then they break up into the 2 lines and do it all over.
Star Wars Day
Even though its past Star Wars Day, we will still be celebrating it this week with some boomwhacker and movement play-alongs found on Youtube. If you do a simple Youtube search for “boomwhacker play-alongs” you’ll see a ton come up from sites like Musication and New New Channel that are great!
Suno Sundays
If you missed our first one this past Sunday, make sure you join me on my instagram or Facebook page for our Suno Sunday events. Suno is an AI music generator. All you do is put in a prompt with a music genre, style of instruments/vocals, and a general idea for lyrics, and Suno does the rest! And creates a whole song with lyrics and vocals and everything! I’m not necessarily a huge fan of AI but it is pretty cool. I’m even going to use in music class this week with my 7th & 8th graders for a fun composing project!
By they way, in addition to all the other fun things happening this week, don’t forget to say Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms in your life too!
And hang in there, summer break is almost here!
