Most of you may know that I teach my music lessons online and have been doing so since the start of covid-19. It seems that even in this day of technology, there are many people that are still hesitant about online lessons. They may be uncomfortable being on camera or are unfamiliar with the technology, or some maybe think it can’t possible work and be as good as in-person lessons.
After teaching lessons online for almost 8 months, let me reassure you that we are all in this together and while there may be challenges that online lessons present, they can be overcome. All of my current online students were in-person students before covid and have transitioned amazingly to online lessons without any problems! They are all progressing well and are performing successfully in their lessons. And any challenges that have come up, we have been able to work together and creatively overcome every single one of them!
Online lessons may not be for everyone but if you are willing to learn and face the challenges of any music lesson, trust me when I say that online lessons can work for you and assist you in your pursuit of music and you can be successful in them, just as you would have in in-person lessons.
I work to provide as many tools for my students as I can. I have emailed PDF versions of note charts and keyboard charts to help my students. I use games and flash cards in the lessons on occasion to keep it fun. And I spend a lot of time making lots of practice videos to demonstrate the music or the techniques needed, or to play or sing along so you still have the opportunity to experience duets on your instrument or to play/sing with an accompaniment. All of these videos are readily available on my YouTube channel for easy access for all my students. Many of them are unlisted so that only my students can see and use them.
I’m even thinking about how we can do a video recital at some point in the future, using my YouTube channel as well. Stay tuned for details about that! It should be fun and exciting!
