Whether you’re doing online lessons right now or just taking a break from lessons during this current lockdown we find ourselves in, keeping up with your practice is super important. Probably now more than ever. Hopefully you’re taking advantage of your extra free time while stuck at home to take more opportunities to practice. I’ve definitely noticed some improvements in a couple of my students’ playing doing online lessons due to having more time to practice. And even a renewed excitement for playing piano and taking lessons because of it.
But how can you practice more effectively? How can we get the most out of our practice time? There are lots of different ways to approach practice but remember the main reason we practice: to get better! Today we’re going to talk about some ways to practice without even touching your keyboard.
…What? How can we practice playing piano without actually playing piano?? By using all of senses and skills to think of the music in new and different ways.
These tips I found at MusicNotes.com Facebook page. If you’re not familiar with MusicNotes.com, I encourage you to check it out. It is a great resource to finding the perfect sheet music to use in your lessons at just the right level of playing for you. Below you’ll see what tips they offer to help you practice more effectively, with or without your keyboard. Listening to your music and studying it before you play are great tips when learning any new piece. Don’t forget you can jot down any special notes or reminders to yourself in the music too!

Happy practicing!
